Structured Data for AI Search: Organization, Product and FAQ Schema

How JSON-LD structured data helps machines understand who you are and what you sell, which schema types matter most, and common mistakes.

Structured data is a standard way to describe the things on a page, such as your company, products, articles and FAQs, in a format machines can read without guessing. It's been part of search for years, and it remains one of the most reliable ways to state facts unambiguously.

Why it helps

Search engines use structured data to understand entities and, in some cases, display rich results. AI systems that retrieve from the web benefit from the same clarity: explicit names, prices and relationships are harder to misread than prose. Structured data won't make an engine recommend you, but it reduces the chance of being misunderstood.

The types that matter most

Organization

Your legal name, brand name, logo, contact details, address and official profiles (sameAs). Put it on your homepage, or site-wide.

{
  "@context": "https://schema.org",
  "@type": "Organization",
  "name": "YourBrand",
  "legalName": "YourBrand LLC",
  "url": "https://yourbrand.com",
  "logo": "https://yourbrand.com/logo.png",
  "sameAs": ["https://www.linkedin.com/company/yourbrand"]
}

Product or SoftwareApplication

What you sell, with offers and prices. Use SoftwareApplication for software and Product for physical goods.

Article / BlogPosting

Headline, author, publish and modified dates. Dates are a useful freshness signal.

FAQPage

Question-and-answer pairs that are visible on the page. Only mark up FAQs that users can actually see.

Common mistakes

  • Markup that doesn't match the page. Structured data must describe visible content. Hidden or inflated claims violate search guidelines.
  • Invalid JSON. A single trailing comma breaks the whole block. Validate with a structured data testing tool.
  • Inconsistent names. If your markup says one company name and your footer another, you're creating ambiguity, not removing it.
  • Fake ratings. Never add review or rating markup you can't support with real reviews.

Check your pages

Our AI readiness checker lists the JSON-LD types found on any page and flags invalid blocks, alongside crawler access and content checks.
